A Trip to the Zoo

O.K., not  really but let me explain. I live in a rural area, in a town of about 25k people. I have to drive about 25 miles to get to work. I usually don't mind the drive, it's a good way to unwind after work before I get home. Lately, though, the drive has been getting to me. It could be because of the longer hours at work, or the high price of gas. I don't know. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in daily life that I forget to stop and smell the roses. I can't see the forrest through the trees I guess.  It seems like lately too, things are getting to me more than they should. I get irritated and short tempered and my tolerance for other people grows thin.

Today on the way to work I was in a particularly good mood. Maybe it was the extra sleep,  great games of Halo2 or the awesome meal I made last night. I don't know. Regardless, I was really enjoying my drive this morning and not thinking about all the work that's piled up on my desk waiting to pounce on me when I walk through the door.

I think God understood my frustration with life in general and took the opportunity to remind me to slow down and enjoy life. Remember that 25 mile drive I have? Well it's all through western Nebraska farmland. On the way to work today I saw, (in no particular order)  rabbits,  pheasant, hawks, turkeys with  chicks, prarie dogs, hawks eating prarie dogs,  quail, various other birds,  horses, cows, llamas,  ostrich and emu. The last three were on a farm with the horses and cows. Since I work the day shift, I don't get a chance to see the nocturnal animals, but I see roadkill of racoon, fox, skunk and porcupine. If I take an alternate route to work, which is shorter but unfourtnately under construction right now, I pass by the river where there are several eagles' nests. Every once in a while I catch a glimpse of bald eagles fishing in the river.

In Luke ch. 12 God says, "I take care of the plants and animals. Don't you think that I'll take care of you too?" My paraphrase.

Thanks God for showing me that life is beautiful, interesting and enjoyable and I don't have to worry.
What did you see on your way to work this morning? Or did you even take the time to look?

I get a ride with my mom to work most days, it is on the way to her job for her. Yesterday a Hawk swooped down about 1/4 of a block in front of us...This morning on our tree in the front yard was a beautiful symmetrical spider web (high so it wasn't in our way). We cross the Mississippi river. Every day we see Blue Herons. In the winter we see lots of American Bald Eagles and watch them fish when we are stopped by the bridge (opens for barges).
