the former lead singer and songwriter for the Australian rock band Midnight Oil. For over twenty years the Oils created music so politically charged that it made Rage Against the Machine lyrics seem topical by comparison. After the demise of the band, Garrett won a seat on the Aussie House of Representatives. Yesterday his career reached a new high water mark when he was appointed Minister of Environment, Heritage, and Arts by the new Prime Minister.

By the way, Peter Garrett and actor Michael Berryman are actually two distinct individuals. I feel the need to explain this as their appearances often confuse people.

Truth be told, though I loved Midnight Oil's music, both these guys give me the heebie-jeebies.

In other news, Michael Moore finally succeeded in killing off Roger Smith. I would have thought Smith might have outlasted him given Moore's predilection for gravy and peanut butter sandwiches.

I loved Midnight Oil. I saw them in a small hall with the Red Hot Chili Peppers as the opener.

I saw them in a similar venue...the Madam Walker Theatre in Indy. It was a birthday present from my girlfriend when I was 17. Wow. Thanks, Blue. I'd forgotten about that.
