As part of a marketing campaign, contraptions were placed around the city of Boston in various locations which featured Mooninite (essentially a moon-man) lit up with LED’s giving the finger. Upon discovery of said devices, city officials went completely and utterly bat-shit insane. Multiple bridges were closed to vehicle traffic as well as maritime traffic along the St. Charles River. Bomb Squads, Haz-Mats, and probably Keifer Sutherland were all called to the scene immediately.
I now present for your viewing pleasure, the first Terrorist Lite-Brite:
This is so damn funny, I could cry. Turns out that these devices were in a few other cities you might have heard of too: New York, LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Austin, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. However, only Boston had two cartoonists arrested and charged with felonies. People in the other cities? Well, mostly they thought they were funny...both in the “ha-ha” and “odd” varieties.
Says the Massachusetts Attorney General: "It had a very sinister appearance," Coakley told reporters. "It had a battery behind it, and wires." Um, yeah. So do by smoke detectors.
This makes my brain hurt. IT’S A LIGHTBRIGHT OF A CARTOON CHARACTER GIVING THE FINGER!
It must be said at this point that I love Adult Swim and ATHF in general. I hope they get all the publicity from this debacle they deserve, because if I lose ATHF, Harvey Birdman, or Robot Chicken I’ll be seriously pissed. There’s no such thing as bad publicity, as they say. Which brings us to:
Cartoon Network/Adult Swim is/are member(s) of the Turner Broadcasting System media empire (Motto: Don’t let those bastards at Fox tell you what to think. WE’LL tell you what to think). I first heard about this on CNN...which is also a TBS-owned organization. I am in awe of this business model: Create the spectacle, then report it. Get them coming and going! Yesterday, nobody (well maybe just I) was talking about ATHF. Now, well, um...more people are?
But let us not forget the true heroes of the day:
Good job, Boston. You’re making the country safe for color-blind school children everywhere.
