Children On Xbox Live

So I was playing COD 4 last night with Turmoil, and he's getting his usual bajillion kills (yes I made that word up) because he rocks, while I'm somewhere in the middle of the pack and dropping, and I hear a high, piercing voice stab my ear drum. This kid could not have been older than maybe 6, 7 or 8 and he's jabbering away, very cute, talking about his 'kills'. Of course no one else in the room is watching their language around him. Next thing I know they jokingly trash talk him. In response, you would not believe the filth that came out of this little boy's mouth! It wasn't just a curse word here and there - there were racial slurs, sexual comments, and the "F" word used in a way only Metallica could live up to. By this point I had stopped paying attention to the game and was trying to picture what kind of parents were at home allowing their child to talk like this and play xbox live with (in my opinion) some of the trashiest people to walk the earth. Anyways, it struck me as sad. I wondered what kind of home life he had - and I'm sure this is the way things are more often than not. But on xbox you get these little windows into other people's lives - whether it be 2old2play friends, or strangers. And some interactions last in your mind longer than others.

My outlook is these kids feel its needed to "fit in", its kewl and they think they will impress someone with their mouths. Some kinda weird peer pressure thats self inflicted, I dont like it for sure. As far as their parents, their probably not as bad as we might think-but havent set examples needed for their young or make them accountable for their actions

I was playing CoD4 also this evening, and there was this kid playing, and I don't recall if he had a potty mouth, but it was already late on a school night, and I think dad(or older male sibling) was playing too. Most people just kept on talking trash and stuff with this kid on, and I'm thinking these people just talk like that around kids? Maybe I am too old to play! SC

Just guessing here but it may have been a poser. In the last years I've run into them twice. Each time was a very cute sounding voice of a child and at some point it rapidly progresses into just what you described. Each time the profanity started, I noticed a slight thickening of the voice. I scared me a bit, like I was hearing a serial killer.

what does Metallica have to do with racial slurs, sexual comments, and the F-word?

I hate playing with kids on Live even the ones that have their parent play with them. It still is the suck.

I think she just meant the F word with the Metallica comment. Some parents out there give their kids xbox live just so the kids will leave them alone, bad parents yeah I know. I don't think parents should let them on live with head sets untill they are at least 16. I let my 7 year old play Marble Blast and a few Arcade games but there is no head set involved and she can't hear any of the other people.

Though I have run across some kids like that, what Deep said could be true. I was playing a game last night when one guy on my team told his buddy to pretend to be a kid. He did a perfect imitiaton of a 10 year old. I was shocked.

Darth - no offense to Metallica at all--I like that band! I only meant that they use the F word a lot in their earlier documentary, which is what the little boy was doing. Just a little joke :-) It reminded me of Lars. In terms of of it being a hoax, I highly doubt it, but of course that would be a happier ending wouldn't it?

This kid was truly no older than 8...It sounded to me like he was being coached a little by an older sibling...None the less this is a saddening trend I am noticing more and more online and off.
