Cringe Post Number Two

The appointment with the Orthopedist was..... uninspiring. To be honest, I dont see why we had to go. All he did was trim Andrew's nail that was digging into the skin near the bed of this finger. Im glad I paid twenty bucks for that, and Im still wondering why our Ped just couldnt do it. Then again, I dont have a medical degree, so what do I know.
It was a really hard parenting moment. I smashed my finger 6 years ago, almost the same as Dylan's and Andrew's. The.most.painful.thing.EVER! (and Ive had a baby with a 100+% head with no drugs lol) As he was telling Andrew what he was going to do, I started squirming in my seat. I knew it was going to be VERY painful for him. I was having flashbacks from when I split my nails in half when I was at work- I puked and then passed out it was so painful.
No matter how hard I tried I couldnt keep the look of terror off my face. I know I upset him and probably made it worse then if I had been able to pull a poker face. I honestly just couldnt stop.
Andrew ended up on my lap and I had to literally pry his hand from his body and hold it still while he SCREAMED at the top of his lungs as the doctor trimmed his nail. So heartbreaking. I think I have only been that upset as a parent once in my life, and that was when Kate had to go on an IV when she was two. (4 nurses and me holding her while a NICU nurse tried to find a vein)
On our way out I one of the receptionist asked me if that was him that they heard, and then offered condolences. The desk wasnt anywhere near the exam room. In fact it was down a long hall, through a door and around the corner. : (
He stayed home from school Yesterday because his finger was bugging him. I probably could have sent him, but his teacher isnt very forgiving of him when he is happy and healthy, Im sure she wouldnt have enjoyed him whiney and loopy from codeine.
On a whole though, he doesnt complain much, and he is being a real trooper.

Ouch. OUCH. So did the ortho mention if he needs surgery or not? Or do they just splint that and let it heal?

They just splinted and said to watch for any infection. Oh, and good news is, that the dr thinks that most likely he should be ok for basketball in the end of march.

omg! That is nasty! I feel your pain, tho, as a parent and grandparent. It is almost harder on us then it is on them when our kids are hurt. ouch
