I just dont get it

On Saturday night we went to a parade and on the way home we were on our cities light rail train. It was FULL. we get to a stop and this family of 6 sees the train is full and decides to cram on anyway, making the train in that area go from crowded to claustrophobic. (it was the end of an event and trains were coming less then every five minutes) Last night we were driving home and we see this chick on the side of the road that is on her phone and obviously pissed off, she starts kicking the bus stop bench and then proceeds to jump on it and destroy it. We were at the park yesterday and I was amazed at the amount of litter on the ground.
I guess I just don't get why people think they are so much better then everyone else that the general rules of society don't apply to them.  People who Jay walk and stop traffic a half a block from a cross walk, the idiots that think that some how the huge "no parking" signs in front of stores don't apply to them.
I am a rule follower. I go in the enter door and use my blinker because I know that things like that are what make society a nice place to live.
Do these people not care honestly? Or are they clueless that they are being an asshat. Is it the rush they get for not following the "norm"? Or are they so wrapped up in their self importance that they think the rest of the world is here to pick up their cigarette butts.
I don't know where I am going with this, I just get sick of feeling like the world's mom. I signed up to pick up after my kids and deal with the self centeredness that comes with children, but I'm sick of having to take it from grown adults that should know better.

People in Oregon being rude, crazy and disrespectful?! Damn, and I thought Oregon was, like, perfectville (maybe it is compared to South Florida).

Littering, destroying public (or private) property, etc. - yes, absolutely inexcusable and I agree with your assessments. The train thing - I doubt that it was all that crowded by Tokyo standards. At rush hour, people are packed in like sardines (you could not physically fall over even if you fainted). The train will be full and there will be about 3 people spilling out of the train at every door when it stops. When the train's doors close, everyone just outside the train will step in, reach up to the top of the doors and push everybody together even more as the doors barely close behind them. All accepted parts of that society. We just aren't used to that here in the US in most places.

Good stuff. I agree. It is amazing that the general rules are not followed. That just feeds my hatred for the general public.

Ya know I've thought about putting up a sign warning the people turning off my street into another neighborhood that there is apparently a theif on the loose that is exclusively stealing turning signals and targeting those that live in that neighborhood. people are asshats excluding 2o2p peeps...well most anyway.....some.....well I'm sure there a couple good people out there?

Rogue and I have a saying. Whenever we are out somewhere and someone is obviously "riding the me train," as we tell our kids when they are being self-centered, we say, "Hmmm, Look! It's the only person in the world!" Common courtesy is quickly loosing ground to self-centeredness. The majority of our generation was raised with a sense of entitlement. It is obviously not helping society.

Definitely one of my pet peeves. Most of the folks today seem to be so self centered that if it isn't 'good' for them, then who cares.
