The green "wood" pen....

So I got into the shop last night to finish up the green acrylic pen and was joined by my lovely wife CurvyBunky. She did all of the turning and finishing on this pen.

First, the blanks from yesterdays blog....

And the finished pen....

Now you'll notice that it's not all green. That's because I learned a valuable lesson last night about how much heat is generated when using polishing compound on a lathe. I melted the other half of the pen so we had to improvise

I prefer the wood as well, but the acrylics are interesting to turn too.

I would think that acrylic would be hard to turn and polish because of the heat/melting issue. My guess would be that lower RPM is definitely needed. I also think that a black or dark grey marbled acrylic would produce a really awesome pen. The green is OK but not exactly my preference either! ;) I think it is cool that you have Curvy interested enough to try her hand too!

why do you have to mock me with the green "wood" title... LOL.. suck it. I would agree that some other colors would be cool, or maybe even a darker green.
