Shared on Wed, 12/10/2008 - 18:50I get to my office this morning and there is a suction cup attached to my office window. The sign hanging on it says:
To save time,
Let's assume
I know everything.
I figured I know who put it there. I go the the break room and my boss is in there. I tell her haha. She is getting back at me for being in a plot to announce her 40th birthday in the campus newspaper. Hey, i was only 1 of 3 in on the plot and lots of people gave money for the 5 column by 4 inch add. It was my idea, but she doesn't need to know that.
Any ways, she says it wasn't her. I say, well, if it wasn't you it was X, Y, or Z. She laughs and said it wasn't and she thought it was funny that the person who did it, I didn't even suspect. I go back to my office and read it again.. I then get pissed. Great, a co-worker thinks I am am a "Cocky, know it all". I take the sign down and place it on another window that a student worker works in front of. It is not the image I want to portray when people come to my office. "Hey, lok at me. I know it all. I am a smart SOB".
I decide I am not going to ask anybody who did it. Won't give them the satisfaction. Great way to start the day.
Lunchtime, I am walking to the gym to work-out and my wife calls. We are talking about stuff and out of the blue she says, "So, I hear you have a sign on your door." I say, really, how did you know since I took it down. The only way you would know was if you bought it and gave to my boss last night to have her put it on my door. She laughs and asks me what I thought of it. I have a bunch of faults. One of my faults is being honest. So, I tell her. I tell her I was pissed that I thought a co-worker thought I was a Smart-Alec. I explain to her why. I don't want to be thought of like that, I don't want to be compared to a former employee that "left" 2 months ago who KNEW everything. was NEVER wrong, and it was ALWAYS someone elses fault.
Great, now I have accomplished on making my wife feel bad.
Another thing that happened today: I went to a reception for an associate Provost that was leaving the job and going back to the classroom. She is going on sabatical next semester. I went up to talk to her and right as I stepped forward to talk to her, she turned away to talk with students. Now, I know she saw me there since I had been waiting for a few minutes to talk with her. I even let another lady go in front of me.
You might not be my BFF and we might not always agree on everything, but HAVE SOME CLASS. Everybody talks about about how great she is and the students wil miss her leadership, etc. etc.. She is great to work with as long as you do not dis-agree with her and do whatever she asks without question. I guess she didn't appreciate the 8 hours I spent working on a problem for her last week.
I guess the next time she needs something, I "might be busy and it will take me a few days to get to it"
