Back to school....well, almost.

Well, the big day is fast approaching. For my daughter, that is.

Kindergarten starts Wednesday. Tomorrow I have a parent/teacher conference at 8:00am then I am to take her back to school at 12:15pm for her KRA (Kindergarten Readiness Assessment) test.

My niece started school this morning. She is 13 and will be going to 7th grade this year. She is a little nervous about her new teachers. In our conversation at the bus stop a teacher I once had was brought up. Good ‘ol Mr. Miller. He was my science teacher once, I tell her. I guess her mom and him did not hit it off too well so she is dreading his class. I told her, “Don’t worry, the meal worms taste okay and the rose petal slushies are yummy!” Poor thing. Evil I know. I told her not worry too much, that he is “super cool”.  He was one of my favorite teachers in middle school.

After she left I started to think back on the teachers that left a lasting impression. I realized something…..only one did I ever take the time to thank, and I think that was solely because it was my senior year and it finally hit me. Life as I knew it was changing. I was maturing. I was nostalgic.

So I want to take the time to tell all you teachers out there, “My hats off to you! Thank you for taking the time to shape our children for tomorrow. Thank you for spending the extra time with that one student that genuinely struggles. Thank you for opening up a world of possibilities. Thank you for putting up with some of the parents (I pray I am never one of them) who swears their precious “little Jimmy” couldn’t possibly have done that! Thanks a million!” I wish I would have told more of my teachers this.

Ahem. Okay, now enough of the sappy memories. Here’s some fun for ya’ll!

I think every high school has a science teacher named Mr. Miller.

Mine is 18 I am so glad I dont have any little ones runnng around anymore. Now is a different type of care. No matter how old they are they will alway be your kids. And you will always worry about them.
