Shared on Fri, 05/18/2007 - 13:48I have only played for two nights and I really like the Beta. Notice the choice of words – “really like”. Let’s put that in perspective. If it were September 25th then I would say, “It’s AWESOME!” I guess my biggest issue is Frank and I have shelled out $120 for this (I know some of you will say this is debatable-after all I bought Crackdown right?). I myself am not overly impressed with the Crackdown game. I played if right after we got it, but it quickly got old. Now, if I had loved Crackdown…then I might even give the Beta more gold stars. I suppose I feel a bit jipped at paying all that money for a Beta that will only be around for 3 weeks. I know, I know…I didn’t have to pay it! So it is my own fault….and I know some of my clan mates are gonna give me heck…but this is my honest opinion.
Now for the game play…I really enjoy it. As for weapons…I love the Brute Spiker…especially if you double wield. Although if I can’t dual wield grenades and the Spiker are great together too. I think the grenades seem a bit more lethal (maybe because I continue to run at my enemy when I through my grenades and get killed as well) in this and I love the Brute Spike grenade. I haven’t had a lot of experience with the new gadgets. Although I did get up close and personal with a trip mine someone set up on the man cannon on Valhalla. I was right next to Sparhawk (I think?) when I was running towards the man canon with the Missile Pod…my foot was right about to hit the lifts when there was the huge explosion and I go flying high in the air one direction and my Pod goes a completely different one. I was like “What the heck was that?” Sparhawk says “I think it was a trip mine!” All the while I am sure is laughing
at my ignorance. Needless to say, next time I found one of those trip mines I set it up in the exact same place for some other unsuspecting player. Got the Spartan Laser once, but was slaughtered before I could even use it. Last night Stewie was able to give me an up close and personal demonstration of it though. I was running towards him (about a foot away); when I realize belatedly that there is this bright red laser pointing at me, then BOOM! We all know the rest…die a miserable death and respawn. But so far I like all the weapons.
Love the mongoose vehicle. 
You can fly around everywhere on the maps! Only downside is there isn’t a lot of protection. Again, last night I hop on with Frank and I am shooting as we drive around when we pass someone. I yell “Back up!”…..so as he proceeds to do just that I get killed as I am shooting at the enemy…I try to yell a warning to keep going...and he says “YOU TOLD ME TO BACK UP!!!”
just as he gets killed as well. Good times!
One thing I don’t like. And I don’t think I am alone is having to use the D-pad to communicate. It takes a little to get used too. When you are trying to yell at your teammates that they are going to territory 2 or warn a teammate that they are about to be killed from behind and realize that you didn’t hit the D-pad and have to say it all over again…the territory is taken or your teammate is dead. I hope it will not be that way in September.
All in all I love the Beta…I just think I should have tried for the rule of three or waited for the release in September because of the money thing. So that’s my two cents, not that it probably matters to anyone but there it is!!
