I mentioned "To Catch A Predator" in yesterday's blog and it got me thinking. I absolutely loved that series. It was like a train wreck or a chick fight. Horrible and uncomfortable but you can't look away. I don't watch much TV at all but for some reason I was intrigued by that series. It may have been because it is the most accurate version of Reality TV.

Seriously, there is no script, no idea what is going to happen; just a host a hidden camera and a pedophile. You get to see people absolutely overcome with fear just breakdown on the spot, its phenomenal! I loved watching their brains try to come up with some ridiculous lie about how they were in the neighborhood looking at houses or something. Then badass Chris Hanson tears their alibi apart...."so you were looking at houses with a bag of condoms and beer? And what were you doing when you sent this email of you spreading your ass cheeks and trying to blow yourself???"

I am always amazed by the people who carry boxes of condoms around with no intention of using them. Or all the people who show up to mentor young children home alone. Here are some other good ones. (from wikipedia)

  • coming to the house on business, such as buying the house or to do work on the house
  • trying to teach children about the dangers of the Internet
  • not planning to do anything sexual (although the chat typically states sexual intentions clearly and several men are caught with condoms and other sexual paraphernalia)
  • suspecting all along that the whole arrangement was a set up
  • to have thought the person they chatted with online was of legal age to consent to sex
  • to be good samaritans/big brothers for a child who was home alone
  • that they always carry condoms with them, and didn't just bring them for the encounter
  • that a friend or impostor used their password or other personal information to gain access to the chatroom, an excuse that quickly backfires, as the alleged predator has to explain to Hansen why he showed up to an appointment at a time and place he supposedly knew nothing about

The show has fallen under criticism over the last 6 months or so because of legality issues and people claiming conflict of interest and entrapment. That's a real pity, this show was a real winner. I guess I'm out of luck until the box set comes out on DVD.

Any other fans out there?
