What did I do over the weekend and yesterday? Played a little Uplink (Deadhead - do you like it?). Ineffectually railed at the buggy hang up on Fallout 3 until I figured out how to get around it today with a little help from some new friends (awesome people in forum...ahem Codemunkee). Bought a cheap copy of Shadowrun for 360 and realized this was not the game I thought it would be. But since I try most things twice, I'll check it out a bit.
Rode to a local and very good motorcycle night event last night that featured the awesome Jason Britton. If you know anything about motorcycles and/or stunters, you know he is amazing. What I did not expect was for him to be so ridiculously genuine, humble and kind - not phony.
So nice when you meet a "celebrity" and he/she doesn't destroy your hopes for him/her to be a cool or regular human being.
This man who has broken his neck 3x and back 2x doing what he loves had extensive surgery on both areas some months back that included replacements with composites and a some fusing. He did not use any morphine while recovering because his pain was so much greater before the surgery than after. He said the Doctor who checked on him after the first 6 hours said it was impossible given the level of pain he was experiencing after surgery that he didn't hit the morphine drip even once - but the Dr. had to eat crow as Jason said compared to how he felt before - the pain was nothing. Dr. ate even more crow when 3 weeks after surgery, Jason got back on his bike.
Heck, I think if I hadn't been so shy and spoken to him (among all the autographs and picture people/fans), he probably would not even have teased me for the fact I ride a cruiser over a sportbike - I think he'd just have been happy to know people are riding. Also very cool, he shared without preaching the moment he stopped being a young hooligan and became a more responsible, safety-minded stunter. And yeah...his easy smile did not harm the evening in the least. His partner in crime and best friend Eric was there too displaying a "Franken-Thumb" that was just amazingly uncomfortable and painful looking which he acquired in Santa Monica, I think. Man of few words but good vibes.
Hmm. This is not a very videogame-centric post as is my usual focus, but it really was a fun event and I really am kicking back. A lot.
Ok. Time to think about what culinary experiment will become dinner :). Then I need to go play.
Oh! I want to try out the xbox party/voice chat system too so if anyone is inclined to chatter a bit let me know. I promise I won't talk too long or too much I just want to know how and if it works! Thanks!
