Shared on Tue, 10/16/2007 - 23:52I am back to Final Fantasy XII. I was stuck in a part for a few months and I finally started getting the story going again. FFXII has some of the nicest graphics and sound I have ever experienced in a video game. The voice acting is great, as is the character design. I don't have a ps3 game that is as nice as this game is. I love the combat system. I hope that system gets kept in the next game.
One thing I really appreciate about the game is the overall feel of the world. It doesn't feel like earth, it feels totally foreign and I can't wait to get to the next area to see what is happening. Even tho the world isn't that big, and it is full of tons of zones, they did such a great job with the graphics that you feel that you are in totally open expansive areas. I hope I can get thru this game. The graphics are amazing, and it just feels really good to play the game.
My biggest gripe is the license board. In a traditional RPG I would love this approach to skills. My problem is, my characters personalities are all pre-defined. They all have a fixed look. They are not my characters to imagine about. The characters are actors that are fully fleshed out for the game. If you bothered to flesh them out, then why not give them all fixed skills as well?
I have no idea what skills to give to who. I have no idea what magics do what, or how much it really matters to have light or heavy armor. The designers should have made a way that the characters where just fixed classes. If it was a roll your own character, the license board would be great, but with fixed developed characters, the license board always makes me feel like I am going to be making a permanent mistake everytime I use it.
I also wish they did a better job explaining how the gambit system works. I also wish that every party driven rpg in the future would use the gambit system. It is the greatest idea ever. MMO's should think of implementing a similar system and let you hire NPC's.
I am 25 hours into the game right now. All my characters are lvl 20-21. I just found the bunny peoples village of amazonion women and am now getting ready to go find the bunny ladies old leader. BTW: How come there are no male bunny people? How come the bunny people don't leave little pellets all around their village? :)
