On the way in to work this morning on CNN, I heard a news story about a shooting that happened some time ago. The story is here www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/03/19/driveway.shooting.ap/index.html (sorry I can't figure out how to set that link up properly) I'm not arguing or debating the issue, I have no opinion on who is right or wrong, mainly because I am certain the events of that night have been embellished by both parties, so who the hell knows what really happened?

Anyway, there was a woman on there involved with the thing who said 'A man is supposed to protect his house, and his family. It is a god-given right under the constitution.'

And I realized, all this time I have been going about arguments incorrectly. Any time I want to justify something, I can just throw out an important-sounding adjective, and a document of authority. Doesn't matter if I know anything about the document in question or whether it actually contains the item to which I am referring.

So from now on I am just throwing out random shit. Pissing on my neighbor's house is an inalienable right under the Watchtower. Shooting my neighbor's cat is an indefatiguable right under the Magna Carta. Whipping out my junk in public is a Category 5 right under Hammurabi's Code of Law.

Of course my sarcasm could be way out of line, I actually have no idea if the constitution says that God gives us the right to shoot someone in our driveway with an illegal handgun. Boy, wouldn't I be red-faced over that one.
