The plan... sort of...

Gun geeks are familiar with Brownells.  Brownells has a really neat web app called AR15 Builder.  It has a few shortcomings, including, but not limited to, website price doesn't always equal shopping cart price, they don't carry every part known to man and the app doesn't always put every part in the right place (see my front sight that should be at the end of the handguard not on top of the low profile gas block).  It's a fun app and if you're looking to do a build you can get an idea of what the end result may look like.  This is mine.

Looks sweet. If you are really gonna build it, maybe the CTR is the stock to get. Locks up real solid compared to the MOE when I did a side by side comparison at the shop. In the middle of building my AR right now, waiting to save up funds for the upper. Christmas is putting a serious bind on my fun money.

Thank you for the link. Wanting to build one versus buying one built. I am just afraid I don't know enough about it to actually do it. I am on ar15.com trying to learn.

H2, are you planning on piecing the upper together as well, or buying a completed one? Throwing the lower together is not that bad, the upper looks a little more difficult.

Not sure. Probably put together already.

I'm going to school to be a gunsmith, so the thought of piecing it together doesn't bother me. For a first time build, you might think about buy a stripped lower receiver (buy local unless you or a buddy has an FFL and won't rape you on the transfer fee) and order a complete kit from http://www.model1sales.com . As to furniture, I'm looking at building this one on the cheap, I have plans for two 6.8 builds (a carbine and a precision/counter sniper) that will probably be expensive. Not to mention a couple of 1911 builds, an H&R Scheutzen .22LR and maybe a tacticool 10/22 for metallic silhouette. And that's just the stuff that comes to mind.

Yeah, the upper doesn't look horrible, but I am going the complete route on the upper. Got the lower all put together already. Got another lower on order, Spike's is running a deal right now. Probably gonna turn that one into a .22 LR plinker, 6.8 is on the want list as well. Rock River has a deal right now for 695 for a complete kit minus lower and BUIS with chrome lined barrel and NM 2 Stage trigger. http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&categ...

Not sure if I'd piss away money on a match trigger with a chromed barrel. I'd be inclined to polish a chromoly barrel to go with a match trigger. Or if a precision competition type 5.56 is the goal, a 20" stainless cut and crowned with full length gas system. Also unless you're just oozing with cash, using a suppressor, and or intending to use it as a SAW, don't drink the piston Kool Aid, it's expensive and doesn't help as much as the anti-direct impingement crowd thinks it does.

nah, going with a stainless barrel on my build, but probably 18". Probably going to go with a LaRue upper once funds allow. Not sure what kind of optic I want to throw on it either, but that will be some point down the road. Hopefully get the LaRue early next year, the lower is looking mighty lonely
