Had a few malfunctions today that could be attributed the asstastic factory extractor on my Remington 597. My Remington banana mag performed quite well though. Pushed 300 - 400 rds of bulk pack hollow points from Federal and Winchester both and with my mad ghetto rest grouped reasonably well @ 25 yds. Call it about 2 minutes of windpipe. The 597 does not like wet lubes, ask anybody in the 597 forum over at Rimfire Central. Worked like a champ with mine though. So, here is the original recipe and what I made with pictures.

Original recipe from Guns and Ammo's Complete Book of the Model 1911

3 Qts ATF
1 Qt 10w non-detergent motor oil
1 Pt STP oil treatment
4 oz Hoppe's #9

3 cups ATF Dextron VI
1 cup Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 15w50
4 oz STP oil treatment
1 oz Hoppe's #9 Bore Solvent (it's occurring to me now as I write this that they may have meant the #9 gun oil but that doesn't make sense)

this is what went into it

This is what I used to measure it, good old cheap walmart pyrex. When done mixing, you can either hit them hard with scotchbrite pads and Dawn ultra concentrate dish liquid or throw them out. Once used for this purpose, I don't fucking care how clean you think you got them, they cannot be used with food. I used the Qt size for the ATF and MO and the little 5 oz ones for the oil treatment and the solvent.

from there the stuff went into a 2 gallon gas can through a funnel which I threw away because it didn't want to come clean. After shaking the can for awhile I decanted some into a condiment bottle. Overall, it ran good in my limited torture test on the 1911 and worked well on my 597 which demands dry lube. I advise making a small batch like I did to see how it will perform. I'm sure it has a million uses but finding a way to use a gallon of it if it's not working in your firearms is dumbshit. My recipe is 1/4 proportionally from the original recipe so the proportions are correct, the flavors are different, but I don't have a motor pool to rob and I was too lazy to go shopping around. Be SPARING in your application of it, target metal on metal contact, apply it, let it rest a minute or 2, then wipe most of it off, almost like rubbing it in to the metal. Should be good, but remember: I am not responsible for any damages you may incur, not saying there will be, in fact there's no reason for there to be any issues if you are properly maintaining your firearms, but proceed at your own risk.
