Video Gaming for a change

This is a video game site, so I should probably say something about some video games. I haven't been on XBL as much lately because of (among other somewhat more personal reasons) this curious white box I got for Christmas. That's right, a Wii. I had always been kind of interested in the Wii for it's Virtual Console. I was a Sega Master System owner and a PC gamer in my youth and never really got to play much of Nintendos offerings and once I switched back to consoles it was pretty much everything but Nintendo. In doing research on the retail offerings I found that aside from some traditional Nintendo franchises and some last gen updates with new and improved Wii controls, there's a lot of fucking shovelware out for the Wii. I wanted big boy titles. So, in the interest of getting out of the house and browsing the racks at the local purveyors of video games I started looking iinto what was out there for the Wii. I have found 3 games out right now that I think sell this system (at least to other chemically imbalanced sociopaths like myself). 1) No More Heroes: This game is awesome. It's also very japanese and cell shaded, so if you're not into that sort of thing, you probably won't enjoy it as much as I have. It sells for about $20 so you don't have to choose between game or diapers. The fact that one the first things the protagonist says is 'Fuckhead' will let you this a not a game for kids. It can get a little repetitive, but then again so can playing Halo or COD. 2) Madworld: This is another one of those super violent games with a little bit of potty mouth thrown in for good measure. It's kind of a mix between Final Fight and Manhunt. Waiting on someone to cry like Nancy Kerrigan about it. Artwise think black and white and red all over.   You get graded on every kill and can do some pretty extreme stuff in the process of dispatching the bad guys. It's brand new, $50 on the shelf. 3) House of the Dead: OVERKILL : This is it. $50 on the shelf, $250 for a Wii. This is a productive use of $300. Go get one now. This is a light gun game played with the Wii-mote. I don't own one of the gun brackets for it, so I can't say anything about how those work. What I can say it's earned it's M rating, damn near AO rating. Not to be played in front of children. Ever. You do not want your kids or their friends repeating Det. Washington's snappy one liners like 'What does it take to pacify a bitch?'. It's chockfull of dismembered limbs, decapatations and bodily fluids. Oh yeah... and F-bombs galore. It's got it's own internal achievement system and the ability to buy and upgrade guns which adds a great deal of longevity to the game. 2 player mode is present and once you've completed the story mode and directors cut mode you unlock dual wield mode (haven't gotten that far myself yet) which is exactly what sounds like. So, in summation, trade in your BluRay drives (you call them PS3s I think) and pick up a Wii, unless of course, like me, most of your friends are make believe and exist only the internet in which case I think Bladerunner is out on BluRay and that's a pretty awesome film.
