My wife always goes all out for Thanksgiving and makes WAY more stuff than anyone can possibly eat. Its her favorite holiday and she loves to cook and bake so its the one day she can just go crazy. The planning and stressing and re-planning that leads up to this day is outrageous enough, but today is when it all goes down. This year is no exception and the menu being planned is amazing. The desserts alone would make your head explode and come back for seconds.
But all good things come with a price tag, and that price tag is today. On top of all the mad prep work and baking that must be done today we have to clean the entire house before everyone arrives tomorrow morning. And by clean I mean SCOUR. My wife is a clean freak. She runs a cleaning business and is crazy about cleaning so when it comes to our house its like the freaking military. I consider myself a neat freak too but when my wife gets in cleaning mode its a whole new realm.
Just a few things I have on my plate today: vacuum the entire house, fold and put away all the laundry (which is ALOT), clean up the entire house (including getting the kids to clean their rooms...easier said than done), steam clean all the carpeting upstairs and down, move a 300 lb foosball table from the upstairs out to the garage...and that's just the start. Once the cleaning is done, then the cooking/baking begins. Its not uncommon for us to be up well past midnight getting everything ready.
The best part is that my wife has to work all day today and she's fighting a cold so she's all hopped up on Benadryl which makes her a tad irritable which makes helping her "interesting". The kids and I are off today so we'll do as much at the house as we can and then jump into everything full swing when she gets home.
The day before Thanksgiving is like the NAVY Seal hell week all rolled into one 24 hour period. But in the end, its all worth it cuz we always have a kick butt holiday and my wife pulls it all together.
