Lost Planet 2 was easily one of the most entertaining and awesome titles of the entire show. I enjoyed the first one, so I was excited to see what was new with this instalment.

One of the notable differences instantly, was that you’re now in a large group of characters, rather than being alone. Teamwork appears to be vital, so it’s worth taking note of those around you when combating the foes. The Akrids return of course, but other enemies are unknown as it was only the Akrid creatures that were shown during the presentation.

After traversing through the jungle environment, the first main enemy was a giant Mantis-like Akrid. Teamwork was essential in taking it down, and soon enough it paid dividends.

However, the highlight of the presentation was seeing the guys taking on a huge amphibious Akrid. Impressive in stature, and not too dissimilar to a salamander, although this salamander had 6 legs.

The idea was to shoot the glowing spots (like usual) and avoid the attacks. One of the most unique aspects of the battle was that you can get eaten by the creature, which leads you to its stomach. Inside, there are more Akrids and targets to shoot within the stomach. However, sooner or later the giant creature will…how do I say this nicely…get “rid” of you and flush you out, heh.

This makes up the general core of the fight. You can get in the VS machines as well to inject more firepower in to the creature. You can even use your grapple to get on to the back of the creature and shoot at the glowing spots there. After a while, continuously shooting a leg will cause the leg to collapse. When we were shown this, this signalled the end of the fight and the Akrid collapsed on the floor, melting away and revealing a skeleton of its former self…pahaha.

Overall, the game looks great, with a strong emphasis on teamwork. Customisation-wise, you can really customise your character to your liking, especially in terms of gender. This gives a personality and a type of uniqueness which I find is pivotal in making yourself stand out. A good aspect for sure.

Lost Planet 2 is surely going to be one of the biggest titles of next year and for good reason. No news on a PS3 version unfortunately, but this is one title I’d definitely buy a 360 for.
