Shared on Tue, 04/24/2007 - 09:21 I'm only about two hours in. Far from what you would call deep into the game. A long day at work took over yesterday and mini golf on live arcade seemed like the far better choice let my brain cool down from the day. But more about that another time.
The characters keep giving me things. One guy gave me something called a pokedex. Far as I can tell its a hand held pokecomputer that's basically a wikipedia for all the pokemon. While I was happy at first I soon realized that it was blank and I had to fill it out by catching the pokemans myself. Thanks for nothing old timer! Ok, after some thought and realizing I had skipped most of the professors speach because I was watching "The Colbert Report" at the same time, it has dawned on me that this is probably the the goal of the game. I knew there had to be one in here somewhere.
Another character has given me a pokewatch. He said I could add apps to it later. I thought that was kind of neat. It had a screen for time, one with pictures of my current team that I could push each one to hear what sound they made, and a screen with a calculator. If math gets involved further down the road I'm screwed!
One guy gave me a fishing rod. That was pretty cool. Until I realized I was going to have to fight the fish I pull out of the water. I'm wondering if thats an Asian thing. I've only been fishing a few times here in North America but I don't ever recall having to battle to get them into the frying pan!
The thing that impresses me most though is just how simple or complex you can choose to play Pokemon. From the leveling system and choosing new attacks for your pokemon, to deciding on how to lay out your team of six. The complexity ramps up but the difficulty doesn't seem to. Which is nice.
I'm kind of surprised with just how much I'm liking it. It's a deep RPG with lots to do. I'm still not telling my coworkers I'm playing it though!
