Is Personality Enough For A Game?

I'm gonna gettcha!
I buy a lot of games. Now I think I'm more of a impulse buyer then an addicted gamer but that's a debate for my friends and family. Once such impulse purchase happend over the weekend.

So I'm at the evil empire ( aka Walmart ) picking up a few of the necessities of human survival. You know, like cheetoes, and of course no visit is complete without a quick flyby of the eletronics department. That's when I see this little psychopath leering at me though the glass of the game cabinet. Well how do you like that. The Xbox 360 version of Rayman: Raving Rabbids is in. Living in a remote area where I still haven't been able to snatch a Wii for myself I say what the hell and pick it up.

The game is great and it's a lot of fun. But here's the thing. As far as being a game goes it's barely average. A bunch of mini-games that I'm sure we have all played before in other games and graphics that are serviceable but nothing to show off when your non-gaming friends are over.

What really stands out is the games presentation and personality. It's weird, its quarky, it's funny, and it generally just seems to put a smile on my face. I'd usually be all over a game like this for it's flaws and repetitiveness but I just can't bring myself to do it.

Or maybe I'm just afraid to hate on it for fear of the Rabbids coming to get me!!!

It's a winner then! I have a few games I dearly love that makes no sense to anyone else why I would play them over and over again. Personality counts spades - it's like a game that sucks but has that one character that you just can't get enough of seeing. They bring me joy and laughter so they count....dang it. I'm not projecting too much here, am I? ;) M-
