Other than the aforementioned silly hand-to-hand challenges, COD3 also may have a small balance issue – axis weapons seemed to fire at a fast rate, but the bullets aren't very effective. I noticed this because it was rare that I had enough ammo for the issued weapon and I would pickup one an enemy left behind (plenty of German guns and ammo lying around, funny that). I also tried some MP and that is cool - good sized maps and good re-playability. Anyhow, finished with COD3 and I'll return it to BlockBuster and find another game.
Any ideas for my next game? I am thinking either Quake 4 or Halo (1? 2?).
Staying with the games and rental topic, I would like to strongly suggest that everyone stay away from Intelliflix. This company is possibly the absolute pits for renting dvds and/or games. In fact, I'm not sure they rent games at all, seeing as how 18 days into membership they have completely failed to send me any games on my queue (and games are all that has been on the queue for the past 7-10 days). Since the last dvd is on its slow journey back to California, I guess I only lose a small sum by canceling this 'membership' before they re-up the account.
On the personal side, went out with my sister and bil to see Children of Men. Based on the trailers and recommendations of my nephew and some members here. This is the first time since 2005 (Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith) I've been to an actual movie theater; I usually watch just watch dvds. I'm not sure why everyone is raving about Children of Men, I just didn't notice anything in particular that stood out. I probably just need to watch it on dvd and think about it some more.
Some pocket movie reviews...
Bandidas – Chick-based action mock-western genre. The actresses looked great and the acting matched what was required by the movie. Basically, the movie is the standard Americans-are-taking-our-land-and-we-won't-stand-for-it plot. Light-hearted and full of eye-candy – just the thing for a late Saturday afternoon UHF broadcast movie.
The Illusionist – Mystery, drama and a little romance. Set in turn-of-the-century Vienna, the movie is very entertaining. Feels almost Gothic enough to have been made by Tim Burton. What appears to be a straight-forward plot, is definitely not as it actually is. Many plot twists and turns to keep a viewer guessing.
Lady in the Water – Mysterious fantasy cum bedtime story. Another wonderful movie/story from M. Night Shyamalan (director of Sixth Sense, Signs and The Village). I am always glad to see someone bringing imagination, fantasy and a great story to a movie. Highly recommended.
