Just killing some time...

So, started classes today using Solaris. A full class - 10 students, 9 guys and one woman. Despite that, this is going to be a slooow week unless this group starts getting active. I wasn't yawning, but I felt like nodding off several times. It doesn't help when the instructor is going over the basics of hard drive design & interfaces before getting to reconfiguring, slicing and mounting. Damit, I learned hard drive design over 20 years ago (MFM -> RLL -> IDE -> UDMA -> PATA -> SATA & varieties of SCSI).

Tried playing Sylpheed. Everything was going great with learning the controls and going through the first tours, but it didn't continue. For some reason that I cannot think about, the designers made a fatal mistake in the audio design. They made radio chatter to be a requirement and not something that could be disabled (or I couldn't find it). After a while it began to feel like I was playing matches with a group of Timmies. Well, except for the singing Timmies, none of those were present. The chatter was just a non-stop wall of inane blathering on about stupid stuff that had little to do with things that I could do. Cruise missiles targeting the main ship & base? Umm, I barely see them, can't get a target on them and my shots don't seem to have any effect. Just how can I defend my capital & base against attack then?! Grrrrr...

I guess I'll go back to playing UT2004 & Doom3 while waiting to see if GameFly will send me a rental of Halo3. Maybe I'll mix some Overlord & Crackdown in there when I can. I'm just like most gamers here - killing some time until the Orange Box (TF2!!1!) & COD4 is released.

For those interested, season five DVDs of Family Guy will be release tomorrow. Just ahead of the new episodes starting on 23-Sep. The show is funny as hell - stop reading & gaming and go out and buy this set already!

Almost forgot, If anyone bought a latest & greatest iPod - there is an firmware update available that will greatly increase the speed of certain functions. There was apparently some problems with the new 'fatty' Nanos & 'classic' iPods concerning album art, menu & gui speeds. People thought the iPod were defective and were returning the units pretty quickly after purchase. I still have some reservations about buying a new 'classic' 160gb iPod, but most went away with this update.
