Shared on Tue, 10/30/2007 - 00:44Time for a review of the new TV season already in progress.
Sunday
1) The Simpsons, Family Guy & American Dad. The Simpsons has really lost its luster since its humorous beginnings, but I'll still watch it because of the occasional funny bits. Family Guy & American Dad are the highlights of the week. Usually very funny initially and sometimes funnier in repeated viewings just to catch the subtle humour.
2) Shark. C'mon, James Woods playing an assistant DA who, with his team, bends the rules anyway possible to produce justice. If that wasn't good enough, and it shouldn't be, there is also the still hawt Jeri Ryan. Sure, she isn't in highly supportive & skin-tight lycra, but maybe the writers will get around to that during sweeps.
3) Dexter. Our favourite serial killer with rules cum blood-splatter analyst returns for another season. I haven't really found time to watch the new episodes, so I'm just recording, editing, transcoding and storing for now. Hopefully I'll get around to watching before the DVD set is released.
Monday
Chuck. Ever have one of those days where you get an email from the idiot that helped you get kicked out of college and the pictures in the email are encoded with the secrets of the CIA? No? Me neither. I think I would have just deleted it sight-unseen. There is a claim that this is a comedy series, but I don't see it. Dramedy maybe. But significantly better than a Woody Allen movie (the only thing that could get me to watch a Woody Allen movie would be if all other TV & movies were hardcore homo-erotica, and even then just barely).
Heroes. They have returned. As with Dexter, I have yet to watch a new episode completely. But I hope that couple with the constant captioning get killed-off fairly early (or they suddenly learn English). If I want to read I'll surf or grab a book.
The Big Bang Theory. Ah, better... a LOL comedy series. Geeks, nerds, regular people and the relationships they try to forge. Turn off your brain and laugh at the foibles that the characters bring.
CSI Miami. Ok, I hate David Caruso (like most people), so why am I still watching this show?! It must be some brain defect bubbling to the surface that compels me to watch. Like a train wreck or minor car crash. Yeah, I'll go with that.
Tuesday
NCIS & The Unit. Fluff? Sure. But very good fluff. What geek/nerd can't empathize with the abused probie, or 'any guy' be torn between goth-lite Abby or massad-tough Ziva to have their respective ways with them? Abby or Ziva...Hmm, whatta choice! Maybe some naked mud-wrestling would solve the dilemma, but not entirely fair to Abby. Still - rowr!
Bones & House. A forensic science show that may be smarter than the CSI series, has hawt geek/nerd women, good creative wordplay/banter between characters and a theme song done by The Crystal Method...? Yes. Then follow it up by the bitter and sarcastic doctor/pseudo-medical show with the cool Massive Attack theme song. Mmm. Nice. Good work Fox.
Reaper. Don't you just love it when Hollywood gives you a show where everything just seems to click? Yeah, Reaper is one of those. Very definitely a comedy, but with a cool cast that brings and servers the laughs.
Wednesday
Pushing Daisies. My wonderful new muse. After every episode my mind wants to bring forth prose to honour the glorious event. Whatever I said about Reaper above...Pushing Daisies is that times 1000. Everything clicks, everything is perfect. I'm already thinking that the writers on this series are geniuses and need whatever award the TV world has to be bestowed upon them. I just love the characterizations and the wordplay is excellent. And the whiplash-wit - wow! I simply cannot gush enough about this series, so I'll stop here.
Criminal Minds & CSI NY. Now with Mandy Patinkin has left the series, there is a rather large hole in the cast. Hopefully they will fill it with an actor that is as equally suited and capable as Mandy (fat chance). What to say about CSI NY...? It isn't CSI Miami! And watching crimes happen against the people in New York City just makes me a bit giddy. I mean, the crimes couldn't happen in a better and more deserving place & to more deserving people.
South Park. Still funny after all these years.
Thursday
CSI, Scrubs & ER. You either already watch them and like them, or ignore them and hate them.
Drawn Together. If you think that Family Guy or South Park are outrageously funny, you haven't seen this show! Take a parody of all these reality shows, animate it, then have all the comedy directed at no-holds-barred shock-humor and you have got this show. Even after editing the commercials and getting the show down to 20 minutes it still takes me +30 minutes to watch and episode because I have to constantly pause the playback so I can catch my breath and not miss anything. Yes, it is that funny.
Friday
Numb3rs, Stargate Atlantis and Realtime w/ Bill Maher - The series continues. I like watching them all.
I almost can't wait for the return of Jericho and Battlestar Galactica. I just need more time to actually watch them all.
