Got my gaming on by playing Halo 3. Overall impression is that H3 is pretty much H2 with somewhat improved graphics. Has the same funky controller map, same almost worthless default weapons (full-auto BB rifle!) and same almost worthless character shielding/armor. Still, since H3 is such a popular game, I'll take a tour and maybe it will grow on me a bit more.
Quick on the heels of H3 is the Orange Box. So time for H3 will be limited by how fast GameFly can deliver a copy. Orange will be released Oct-9, GF has a rental release of Oct-11, and I'll be lucky to get the disc (or discs?) by Oct-17 - right in the middle of another work training week. Great.
These last weeks of work were just amazing. We had a computer room renovation project come to the 'big push' phase. Imagine a large computer room with several large AC units, a few battery UPS that can keep power for +20 minutes, and enough rack/enterprise servers, multi-terabyte storage arrays and small box 'servers' to drive a +25 person team crazy. Got that? Good. Now imagine all that on standard raised flooring with data & power cabling almost completely filling the sub-floor space. Yep - chaos.
The 'big push' phase of this renovation project was to backup & power down ALL systems and verify cabling that could not be verified with the systems powered-up. Then remove ALL sub-floor cabling - power & data. Electricians handled the power cabling & various others got the data cabling. After that was finished the next phase was to allow electricians to run new power conduits & cables. Then came new data cabling using a ceiling-mounted ladder system - label, connect, verify twice, verify good connection twice and repeat verifications once systems are up.
All totaled, major systems were down for a little less than 24 hours. Other support systems took less than 48 hours. Dev boxen took longer. But it is all up and running correctly. Sweeeet!
Does anyone reading own a Honda Fit or Scion xD? I'm interested in both but I am in need of opinions. Leave a comment or PM. Thanks.
