My night with the cops

Saturday night/Sunday morning I took a ride along with a local PD. It was both interesting and informative. Evening totals, 10 hrs of awesomeness, 5 tickets, 4 drunks, 2 arrests, 2 hours at county jail, 1 dude pissing himself, 1 stoner, 1 crash(which actually happened right in front of us), and 1 chase. (Could have been better if the tranny would have made it to jail before we left) I come away with a more profound sense of respect for people that choose police work as a profession, and yet I will always be mad at them (and myself) when I'm the one getting the speeding ticket.

The chase was the most exciting part of the evening. We were driving down a city street, when the officer said, "Hey, did you see that!"

I was sitting there, "See what" while looking in front of us for something I missed.

"Hang on here we go. We gotta get them, they're going 75 in a 35" The officer deployed the "bat-turn" and the chase was on. We caught up with the vehicle, and it was not stopping. It passed a car on the right, hit a curb, and looked like it was going to crash. But the driver managed to correct it, only after crossing the double yellow line. It was then, that the driver figured out, we weren't going to be evaded. The driver pulled over, proceeded to lie about the reason for the speeding (big mistake, tell the truth or it will bite you in the rear), the story did not check out, the driver was removed from the vehicle and could barely stand, stumbling several times with the officers preventing the driver from falling to the ground. After verifying that the driver's story was false and that the driver was extremely intoxicated, the driver was hand-cuffed and placed in the rear of the cruiser. A one-way trip to the county jail followed.

I thought that would be the end of the evening's "entertainment". I was wrong, the jailers and other cops at the jail were a blast, watching how they handled the drunks with professionalism while being called everything from racist to racial slurs was pretty cool. I don't know how they can put up with the B.S. that they have to deal with, but they did it.

Anyway, I will definitely try to make time for another ride along in the future. It is both an eye-opening experience and exciting way to pass an evening.

Thanks for the story, I've been considering trying to do this, too.

I got to ride along with a friend I play basketball with he had the paperwork. Talk to a cop(not when he's pulled you over), or call a local PD and ask.

As an officer I would like to give you a huge thank you for taking time out of your life to see what it is really like and how the vast majority of officers really respond to the people we have to deal with. Seriously, Thank you. I would also like to comment that I am a Raiders fan and would like to give a shout out to the Raiders for being 100% better than they were last year, having doubled their win total - so far - of last year with 4 victories this year.
