close to home

I was working today and one of the nurses came up to me and asked had I heard about the bus hitting someone? I said, um, no....What about it? The woman died. Yikes! Well, we looked it up on the local TV station website and, sure as the world, it had happened. When we first saw it, it said it happened on Manning Drive by Columbia. Wow! That's like right in front of the hospital! I would have seen it all if I would have just looked out the window. Not that I wanted to. It happened at 11:00, and by noon there was no one in the entire hospital that didn't know about it. Nothing like a hospital grapevine! News spreads with the speed of light!

Lesson learned:  either look both ways before crossing the street, or don't jog on main highways.  Whatever.
