Fixed

The man's surgery was yesterday.  First it was postponed from 7:30 to 11:00, then the first case ran over, then it was finally 1:00 and they took him away.  I waited, and waited, with no word at all for over 3 hours.  Finished my book.  Finally!  He's in recovery.  Doctor came out and told me it was a bit more extensive than he had originally thought (I sorta figured that would happen), but all went well and my man is now fixed.  By around 5:30 he was in his room and I could see him.  Oh, so sad to see him looking so vulnerable.  WTF?  He was not hooked up to a PCA (patient controlled analgesia.....IV pain control).  Oh, he will be on percocet until discharge.  Again, WTF?

He was ok for about 15 minutes, then the spasms started.  Ya know the pain scale, 1-10, with 10 being the worst pain ever?  I don't know how far over 10 he was, but I turned into an angry tiger very quickly when they said all he could get was oral pain meds.  His screams brought the whole nursing staff and a few doctors to his room.  Good.  GIVE HIM SOMETHING IV, NOW!  Ahem, just doing my job.  But, it got him a shit-load of IV morphine, valium, and some muscle relaxer.  He was supposed to get that throughout the night, more if needed.  But, the amount they gave him seemed to work, so I hope he had a good night.  No, I did not stay with him.  I left him quite comfortable after making sure he ate something and giving him numerous love touches.  It is only 6:30am now, and I am leaving for the hospital soon.  We ordered breakfast for him to arrive at 7:15, so he will be occupied with that for a while.

So, all of you that were thinking about us, thank you.  It's not over yet, there is still recovery.  Back brace, learning to use a walker.  Ugh.  It was supposed to be easier than this.  He'll be ok, tho.  Just takes time.
