Shared on Mon, 09/07/2009 - 06:16Today is Labor Day, a national holiday that celebrates workers. Hmmmm. Most of us have the day off. There are sales everywhere for this holiday, so workers can go out and spend their money on supposed mark-downs. Yes, I truly believe that these 25-50% off sales are just bringing the prices down to a more normal, less inflated price. Yes, I went shopping yesterday. Unlike what most people believe of women, in general, I absolutely HATE shopping. Thank God for the Internet!! Well, I bought a pair of shoes, but nothing else on my list. It seems the whole country was out taking advantage of those great sales. Bah! I got in and out as fast as I could. The rest I will do online.
When I was a kid, Labor Day always meant a huge picnic with all relatives in attendance, and the beginning of school. Now school starts a week or two before Labor Day. WTF? What is the purpose to that? Start school, and then just a few days later, a holiday weekend. Hmmph. As a young mother, the big picnic continued which now included my brothers and sisters with their spouses and kids. It was always at "home", the place we grew up in. There was plenty of room for spontaneous football games and other fun things. We had 10 acres to spread out on. As years went by, we all went our separate ways, mostly for jobs, which is what labor day is about, right? We have all gotten divorces and remarried, at least once, and now our kids are grown up with kids of their own. We don't get together for Labor Day any more, and haven't for a long time. Pity.
Well, I am glad to be a "worker". Glad I have a job in this economy. I bitch and moan about how hard it is, but the truth is, I luv my work, just hate the system. I have worked in some capacity since I was 11 years old, and that seems like forever ago. So, for those of you that are working, and for those of you that, for whatever reason, are not, Happy Labor Day!
