My day at work

I worked hard today.  I'm tired and a little wound up.  Well, I have the right....  When I am slinging chemo, I am actually giving people stuff that can kill them, sometimes.  Most of it just makes them sick, but I give them meds so they don't throw up and stuff.  You don't want to know about the "stuff".  Well, today I saved someone's life.  Ha!  SuperNurse!  I was giving this guy Rituximab.  Can be pretty mean stuff.  There was no documentation that he had a reaction the first time he got it.  The doc didn't say anything except that he ordered extra meds.  D'oh.  Should have been a huge light bulb over my head, but.....  Then, while he was getting it, one of the nurses said "he's getting THAT?"  That's when I found out he had reacted in the past.  By reaction, i mean anaphylaxis, which without fast action, means death.  omg!  Thx for telling me!  Well, he crumped right in front of me!  Said he was nauseated and felt bad all over.  Then he sorta just slumped over and, wow, he was gone that fast!  All hell broke lose with me the "first responder" since I was actually about 2 feet from him.  Someone called a code.  I was intent on waking him up and getting him to breathe, so I got him flat and "WHACK", pounded him a good one in the chest.  Nothing.....  Did it a second time, and he came around, confused at all the people, and, whew, eventually he was ok.  Man, he even drove himself home!  That was my day!  And, they talked me into coming back tomorrow, my day off, cuz clinic will be extra busy.  Of course, I take bribes, and now the charge nurse owes me dinner.  Wow, what a day.  And, on that happy note, I'm going to bed!  G'night.
