I just got the call from by husband's nurse with his PSA results.  It is rising.  Again.  Still.  Not much, but then, he doesn't have a prostate, so anything above zero is something.  My hubby is a 12 year cancer survivor.  It has not been without problems, though.  He had surgery.  As they like to say, "they got it all with clean margins".  Being a cancer nurse, I understand that even clean margins does not mean it will not recur.  Well, he has had his follow up checkups, always on schedule, and there came a time he needed radiation, cuz his PSA was rising.  OK.  We got thru that.  It's not fun, and the after effects still linger, but he has been ok.  Then we had a scare a few months ago with a back injury that looked like spinal cord compression, a frequent complication of prostate cancer.  He was completely worked up and they found nothing other than degenerative joint disease (DJD), which is not really that surprising in a man his age.  But, he has been slowing down.  Lost some weight.  Appetite not that great.  Uh Oh!  So, now the results of the lab test are not good, and the next step is either these nasty shots that cause men to have hot flashes and night sweats, sorta like we women have, sooner or later.  Or chemo.  And he is talking the the talk that is hard to listen to.  We have had that talk many times.  Someday he will be gone, and he is not going to let any cancer be the thing that takes him!  Ack!  So, I watch, and wait, to see what will happen.  This is not my usual type of blog, but I just needed to say something.
