SNOW!!!

I woke up this morning to a white blanket of snow.  My car is covered and I have to figure out how to get to work.  Not that it will be busy.  We were supposed to be slammed today, but that's not gonna happen.  There's a couple inches on the ground and the expectation of 2-4 more.  Doesn't sound like much to you northerners?  This much snow shuts down the whole state!  There are accidents all over the place.  All the daycares are closed.  The bread and milk is strangely missing from the grocery stores.  I'm not sure the busses are running.....I'll have to check that.  Yes, Chapel Hill and surrounding areas are closed!  Well, not really.  But they are telling us on the news to stay home.  The snow is very wet and packs into ice as soon as it's driven over.  Out here in Orange county, we don't even have so much as a scraper!  I'm on my own plowing through the snow and ice and trying to get up hills and curvy roads without sliding over the edge into a huge ravine.  I exxagerate a little, but not much.  There is one hill on the way to the bus stop that I had to make 5 or 6 tries to get up the last time we had snow.  I will perservere and I will succeed!!!

When I first moved down to NC from MI I could not believe the reaction to a little snow.  I laughed until the time I had to drive in it.  The roads in many areas don't get cleared at all.  You wait until it melts.  I was homebound for 5 days one year.  It was creepy.  And, that's how long it took for it all to melt so we could get back out on the roads.  Another time I slid into one of those "ravines".  Well, it seemed like one.  Fortunately, a guy in a pickup came along and just happened to have a tow chain.  Imagine that!  He pulled me out AND followed me home.  I luv the South.   So, I don't laugh any more.  I am well transplanted and feel like I was home grown here.  Ack!  They are reading the closings.  He just said there are over 700 closings and delays, and more to come.  Wah!  I wanna stay home today!

I'd sympathize, but we're on pace for our second record-setting winter in a row when it comes to snowfall. I'm actually just on my way out to shovel out the driveway before work. Again. 3 more inches expected by the weekend. Actually, I do sympathize -- snow sucks if you're not ready for it.

What's so funny........it's not gonna stay. 2 days and it'll be gone. Everyone freaks out over nothing.......yet if it was a hurricane that hit your area, no one would even think about the bread and milk and would be buying beer and chips instead. lol
