Shared on Thu, 07/05/2007 - 16:31Today was supposed to be very busy at work, being the day after a holiday and all. It turned out to be not so bad, except for an encounter I had with another nurse. This person is very much disliked in our clinic, but I have gotten along with her just fine by mostly ignoring her. Well, she doesn't like to be ignored! We were working side by side today, something that doesn't happen all that often. She overheard me call the pharmacy to tell them that they forgot to send an IV premed. What's a premed? Oh, these medications are a cancer patient's best friend. Anti-nausea, anti-anxiety, anti-anaphylactic shock, etc. I was immediately informed that I should just give that medication orally and get the order changed. I was wasting and hour and a half (not true, more like 20 mins) by giving it IV anyways. I was a slacker. I do not take initiative. Ack! I almost punched her out right there! It was in front of patients and other nurses, and quite loud. I told her that what she said was "quite insulting" and she agreed and just smirked. I walked away. I had to. But, I was burning!!!!! Yes, I tattle-taled! I went directly to the charge nurse, then the nurse manager. Reported!! Not the first time for her. She is on probation for exactly that behavior. So, I just added another reason to send her out! Hmph! Other than that, it was a great day!
