Shared on Thu, 12/28/2006 - 10:15Just got off the phone with 18004MYXBOX .... was expecting a super quick resolution to my issue where my controller + new wireless headset don't work but instead I was on the phone for over an hour, on hold for huge portions of that hour and the net result was "buy a new controller - yours doesn't work".
Background:
I have 2 controllers, 1 controller works with the headset fine (4 months or so old). My other controller was original with the xbox (april-ish purchase). That "old" controller doesn't work. The wireless headset will refuse to take position "1", the position the controller is in. They are supposed to both be on the same spot in the "ring of light" so that they are associated together for gaming.
Support call:
Spoke with a tech representative and she was going to send me a replacement controller then got blocked when it was outside of their 90 day warranty. She went on hold and came back a couple times and told me she couldn't send me a new one b/c "the controller is defective". I told her it works great! It is not defective! I had read about this problem but there were a couple updates that supposedly fixed this and I had hoped I wouldn't have an issue when I received mine as a xmas gift.
She let me speak to her supervisor ("i had hoped you would ask to speak to my supervisor" - I think she knew they were being unfair but she doesn't have authority to just get her supervisor w/o me asking (let this be a lesson - always ask for the supervisor!)). Her supervisor (jasmine) got on, i explained the issue and told her I was disappointed I was being told this. MS has been great to me, their stuff has worked so well, I've called support once before (in 3 years of having XBL) and they were AWESOME - why should I buy a new controller when it works fine. This is obviously a software issue.
Bottom line:
I had read MS was not acknowledging this is an issue. Now I've confirmed it for myself. I'm incredibly disappointed. I am not a huge MS fan, but the 360 is a great success. MS has put together a system that "just works". I use it for MCE as an extender, a DVD player, I'll eventually get the HD-DVD player, I play with friends 2x/week and get oodles of enjoyment from this little white box. And now I'm being told to go to hell for poor programming.
I'm on the "callback" list now. They escalated my ticket and we'll see if someone makes this right. I intend on emailing the major (majornelson) about this as well. Maybe I can push this out to digg or joystiq or something. They are supposed to be plug-and-play ... why wouldn't all their accessories work within themselves?
