I've been using linux since '95 .... exclusively since '99 (with a recent addition of windows in the past 6 months due to installing Windows XP MCE and then Vista MCE). I run Kubuntu linux and my recent claim to fame is adding support for Microsoft Alerts to Kopete (a linux IM program). I did this in order to get the popups for XBL friends when they came online. Probably within 1 week of me finishing this, MS removed Alerts and redesigned their xbox site. So much for claim to fame ... in any case it still works well so if you have any MS Alerts and you use kopete, you're using my code.
I had a tivo since '00 and wanted to go HighDef, I didn't want to pay tivo again and was interested in MythTV. I ran that for months with pretty good success ..... but then I got my 360. I knew about the MCE (media center edition) extender functionality and really dug the idea of consolidating my devices down to the 360 (DVD, PVR, CD, pictures, music). So I bought a cheap computer ($300), put in a couple tuner cards and many many many hours later I had Windows XP MCE working, very well I might add.
I asked to be put on the 360 Vista Extender beta test team and tried this off and on .. mostly off since everything up to RC sucked (didn't have drivers, wasn't stable, slow). But the RC was very good. I have now installed the RTM Vista MCE and it's very solid. Looks like a million bucks and works like a champ.
I still long for some of the mythtv features (like commercial skip) but generally am VERY satisfied with Vista. I've been very impressed with MS stuff over the last year or so .. the 360 is "done right" and their entire approach to the software world is a little more easy to swallow (OO support [after major threats of loss of business], using more standards, playing nicer).
I also program in C#/.NET and am impressed with that as well (I do java as well, and C++/Qt for the linux world).
That's about it! I'm most recently looking to replace my MX-500 remote control (aka "The Beast") with a harmony remote. I got the Harmony 360 for xmas but it just wasn't working out ... too rigid of a layout (very row/columnar) so I'm sending it back and now am deciding between the Harmony 670 and 676. I'll keep you posted here as well.
Also I play the 360 2x/week with the clan "BulletSponge" here. We're a bunch of laid back guys with about the same skill levels, we play H2, GoW, SCDA, RB6:Vegas ... those last 2 titles are knid of funny b/c not everyone in the group has the titles ... our group was pretty tightly unified with H2 for a LOOOOONG time ... GoW finally broke us up a bit, and now we're pretty much down the middle with SCDA and RB6:Vegas (I'm on the SCDA side, don't play RB6).
