Harmony 680

So I returned my Harmony 360 remote in favor of the Harmony 680. Primary reasons were layout of the remote (the 360 is a little too generic and row/columnar), the 3 lines of LCD screen vs. 2 (I wanted 6 items on the LCD without having to page), and the fact the 680 has a green button on it specifically for MCE use (of which that is my anchor in my living room).

Verdict so far is that Logitech still SUCKS when it comes to supporting the 360 as an extender, but with the right workarounds the thing is SWEET!!

My muscle memory is still getting set for the layout of the remote (I had the MX-500 for years).

The only real workaround I did was tell it I had an HP x5400 ("computer" - MCE Extender). This brought in all the MCE specific IR commands and allowed me to use them and "trick" the software into thinking I had a real MCE PC. I also set the 360 to accept 360 remote and MCE remote commands (in the system blade under Remote Control).

I'm still working some small kinks out, but if you select an MCE extender in the logitech software, it looks like it will work for all functions. This includes pushing the "Rec'd TV" and being taken right into the recorded TV in MCE itself.

Very nice and sleek, especially when compared to the Beast (MX-500).

In wireless headset news - I shipped my controller out today (1-11-07) and they will ship me a new one when they receive it. Once I get it and test, I'll post my ticket # in case anyone wants to use that as leverage to get MS to give them a new controller since their buggy software OR old controllers don't work together.

Total time spent on the phone ... probably 2-3 hours ... blech.

The good news is the wireless headset and "new" controller work wonderfully together. I got a complaint last night about feedback during Gears of War, but it went away and might be because the battery is a little low. Otherwise it sounds better, feels better, doesn't get in your way if you want to eat or drink while playing (compared to wired), and works great.
