Aslo each recipe has the medievil version and a modern version. I gave her heck for buying it as I thought we will never use it. Anyways a couple days later I start thunmbing through the pages... noticing yummy things making note of needed special ingredients.
Anywho a week after she bought the book I prepared a feast of fire and ice lol. I guess I was wrong on this one honey. I am sorry. Well I made onion and cheese pie (a quiche), beans and bacon, corn fritters, buttered carrots, a decidant beverage called lemonsweet and for dessert, creme bastard (frozen blueberries covered in cream). Anywho everything was a raging success. The recipes all were perfect really. The only place I stumbled was in preperation of the creme bastard. They should mentioned to heat it slowly and not let it boil, at all, as my first attempt burned and curdled super bad. But i tried again, and made a delightful cream sauce. (thats what she said lol) I also learned that I am not a big fan of saffron. Not disapointing at all given the price. Its good just as a mild background fklavor but don't add too much or yukky.
So ya if you see the book and wonder if the recipes even work or are good, well sir or madam, yes they are good and work and easy to prepare. I made 17th century pastry dough for my quiche and it worked perfectly! I am not a chef and didn't have a hard time.

What did you put the Saffron in? I have had it in rice before.

A pinch went in the pastry dough which turned out nice. But then the pie filling asked for 1/4 teaspoon. I put in an 1/8th and still found it too strong. A pinch was all that was needed in the filling also.
I know I have had it in something when I was young but can't remember now....
