Microsoft Support WTF!

April 19th, the second day of GOW3 beta, I wanted to remove my credit card# from my xboxlive account after hearing about Spooky, my nephew and STEPTO (head of xboxlive online security) getting their live accounts stolen all within a month or so of each other and of course all the other poor bastards getting hit as well. So I called up support and asked nicely of course,

Customer Support: Sorry you have to cancel account.

Me: No just remove cc#

CS: Nope cancel your account, but I would advise against it since you still have 8months left.

Me: Really? I have to completely cancel? No credit , no codes to redeem the rest of my subsciption?

CS: Yes!

Me: Fuck U Microsoft! Cancel my account!

Since then been talking to others, and they thought that was bullshit seeing as they had accounts and didn't need to enter cc#.

So I called back, told the new customer support agent the story and wanted an explaination. They also wondered why I was not given credit for the rest of my subscription. So they put in a request for a subscription token for me. I also mentioned my missing out on the GOW3 beta cause of the previous asshat and they noted it in my token request. Hopefully I get some sort of compensation.

 

Well i get my token hopefully monday. But the whole ordeal, especially with the stories of all the people getting their live accounts stolen and sony getting hacked as well, has left me thinking...

WTF!

Funny, I'm having a similar but different problem. I signed up for discounted XBL membership a while back. I decided after the crap with Sony I wanted to remove my credit card info from Microsoft XBL. Called them and they said they could do it but I would lose access for a week ????? No reason why I just would. I thought about it and called back. This time they said I would need to cancel completely and being as I was almost to the end of subscription probably wouldn't get credit. In addition I would lose all my achievement points, big hairy ass deal never cared about em anyway, but it irked me. So I'm with you WTF Microsoft can't you ever get your story straight?

Can't you just remove the card online under the windows live account management?

YOu could have just done it yourself and avoided having to talk to support. They also just added paypal support in the dashboard which you could have changed to on the xbox if you have a paypal acct. Anyway what's done is done but now you know for future.

Sorry dude. I had done it in the past via their phone support just fine. You must've ran into a bad rep or something. Took the CC off and been using the pre-paid subscription cards, which you can get at a good discount from time to time (thanks Tank for posting info on that). I'm about to send you a PM with a free 48-hour Live code til you get your account restored. Enjoy. PS Haven't played with you in ages (Uncle Sam is here).

I have had a couple different issues where XBOX live support has told me one thing, only to call back later and get a different answer. Knowing how customer support works, I am guessing they need to totally rework their troubleshooting database to be more friendly for their service reps. Like Taxi said, I usually get better results taking care of my problem through my account online.

Nice to know what your experience has been as I am going to be doing this next week and if I have to call support it will help on dealing with them. My live account is the only one that has a saved credit card on it and I think it is time to remove it.

@Tara, tank, caphun- Nope I was unable to remove my cc# online. I tried on the Xbox live site then the microsoft billing site. I had no choice but to leave a valid cc# saved online to have an active account and had no choice but to call support. Maybe its different in the States. @SMO5 - Thanx dude!
