Shared on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 01:38I spoke with the manager at the repair center my tv was taken to today, she told me that they were finally able to reproduce the problem. And they were quite horrified at the noise coming out of the set once the issue manifested itself. Yep, it was brutal. She then explained to me that they were having an issue getting parts because the warranty company was being sort of difficult. So the bad news? I'm not getting that set back any time soon. The good news? Talked a bit more with the manager and she's going to try and convince the warranty company the set is a loss and needs to be replaced.
Normally I buy my stuff at Best Buy, but when I bought this particular set I went to a nearby local electronics store because I could get next day delivery as opposed to waiting almost 2 weeks for delivery from BB for the same set. Problem is they use different warranty companies, and the company that wrote my current warranty only gives you the current value for the set if it needs to be replaced. The Best Buy warranties (I know this from experience) will give you a store credit for the entire amount you originally spent, including tax. Looking at the Toshiba website, that would be $900. Good enough, that will offset part of the cost of the new set I bought. But thats only if the repair center can convince the warranty company that the set is a loss.
Speaking of, as mentioned before the new set is being delivered tomorrow. Unfortunately its going to be late tomorrow, as in between 5 and 7pm late. Major suckage but thats how the driver is routed so nothing I can do about it. So in the meantime I broke down and dug out my old component cables for the 360 and hooked it up to the piece of crap I'm using now backup television. BRUTAL! Seriously, I can't read shit when I'm trying to play so I'm just watching Netflix to pass the time. But that should make me appreciate the 60" HD goodness I'm going to see tomorrow even more.
Anyway, the moral of this story? Always buy the warranty. Always.
So its after 1:30am and I'm still up, I knew the no sleep thing the other night would come back to haunt me dammit. Think I'll go see Thor tomorrow morning, my son saw it tonight and told me it was really good. Gotta love matinees...might even see it in 3D. I've never seen a movie in 3D before, I read that Thor makes good use of the technology so that might be a good first one to check out.
Like I said once I get the new set I'll post pics, probably late tomorrow evening or Sunday morning.
