Shared on Fri, 08/24/2007 - 01:36We've had some bad storms today, so bad that while at work this afternoon we were outside watching literally 2 weather fronts collide (clouds and stuff) and actually felt the hot humid air turn to a very cold breeze while the clouds it brought with it moved opposite of the other front and collided. We watched as weird formations grew from this collision, including the one area of clouds instantly turning green before our eyes as it happened. That was wild. And as this happened, tornado sirens went off around us. Fortunately nothing of that nature happened (that I'm aware of), so the rest of the work day was uneventful.
So I get home at my usual time, come in, take my meds for my gout and fall asleep for a little bit. I wake up a bit later to find the power out. Great. So I'm sitting here, and the power stays out. Came back on for 30 seconds, then went out again. I had charged my Zune earlier so I entertained myself that way. I went out to the car later to check the time...10:20. WTF? Still no power. I eventually fell asleep knowing I had no alarm clock, but also knowing if I overslept my bosses would understand, so fuck it.
So the power just comes back on 10 minutes ago, and going by the time on the clocks now it was out over 7 hours. Fucking piece of shit Com-Ed.
Now you might say to yourself "Well dude, shit happens...especially in bad weather like that". I say fuck that.
I have a 1 bedroom apartment, and with my AC running sporadically I'm paying $75 a month in electricity. $75!!! Com-Ed raised their rates earlier in the year by like 20% (maybe more, I forget right now) and gave some bullshit reasoning for it. We all know the real reason...they saw what the oil companies were getting with it and said woah...I want some of that too! So because our government doesn't actually give a rat's ass about the people its supposed to serve as long as their pockets are getting lined by lobbyists, its all good. But I digress.
My power out for 7 hours? Fuck that. For the kind of money Com-Ed is charging, I don't want to hear any bullshit about bad weather, about lightning striking transformers. For the kind of money I'm paying for electric, I want those transformers to fucking strike the lightning. Thats right. I expect the storm clouds to gather and those fucking Com-Ed transformers to pimpslap the shit out of them before anything happens. But no, that would only be expecting service for your money.
Gah, I'm cranky. Thats what happens with no XBL for an evening.
