Occupational Hazard, redux

So I go in to work this morning having had the last half of last week off.  I moved the remaining girl in our dept to the cubicle next to mine, switched her tower so I didn't have to screw with admin access, and in the middle of hooking her comp up my phone rang.  I asked her to answer it for me, she did, told me it sounded like the girl that we fired last week.  So I answer the phone, and sure enough...its her.

So she tells me she had a domestic with her bf last week (we figured this much already) and had to hide from him, so thats why she didn't come in.  Then she asked if she could come up and get her things from her cubicle.  I told her no, she shouldn't come back, just call her agency and they would pick them up for her.  Thing is, apparently she hadn't checked in with her agency yet but she knew she was fired?  I dunno, or maybe she was quitting.  Either way, she didn't have much...a framed pic of her baby and a drinking cup.  I put both of those away in my desk (I was careful with the baby pic, I'm a parent too!) and went about my day.  Then I got to thinking that maybe I should just meet her after work somewhere and give her the stuff.  And oh yeah, her personal belongings too.  ;)  (hey, she's cute and she's now apparently available, so...)

Its kind of a shame to see this happen to her.  She's by no means stupid, she is an intelligent girl and has a very good personality.  I don't understand her line of thinking when hooking up with this guy.  I have long held this theory that women prefer problem guys because they feel needed, they think they can "help" that person.  I mean this guy is in his 30s, a gangbanger, has 4 other kids that HE has custody of...I mean come on, doesn't this set off any warnings?  Did she think somehow things would wind up differently with her?  Like I said, she has potential...she could really do well for herself.  But sheesh, gotta use some common sense I would think.

Anyway, I called her back later in the afternoon to see if she wanted to just meet me nearby after work to get her stuff but never got ahold of her.  Ah well.  Hopefully this guy didn't kill her.

Dude! Stay away from that shit! Talk about emotional baggage. Just a nasty situation you don't want to get in the middle of or even near. MJ

I'd say is your best bet in getting her things back to her is to go through all of the regular, documented channels, staying clear of any personal liability. Her ex is messed up, but she doesn't seem all that stable, either, you never know what might happen if you were to take that on yourself.

Yeah, last thing I need is an irate 31 year old career gangbanger deciding to take me out. Good call on that guys. I have a call in to her agency anyway for tomorrow, hopefully they'll pick the stuff up soon. And now the fun of the interviews begins once again. Already had one meh today and one no-show.
