They have a massive sale going on through the end of Monday.  My Schechter was giving me problems again, and again it was the neck.  This was the second time and it was bowing up again, so I was through with Schecter.  It seemed like they used broken pallets for the neck wood.  So I talked to a manager there and he agreed it sucked that I had all these problems so he let me return the Schecter for something else.  I wound up spending a little more money out of pocket, but since I'm moving up the instrument food chain I don't mind.

So without further ado, I give you my new baby:

Ibanez SP500 Soundgear 4-string.  1 piece neck, through bridge, killer Bartolini pickups.  The picture above is brown mahogany, but in reality the bass looks more like cherrywood than a flat brown.  Anyway, its got a great sound.  The neck feels thinner, a little smaller, so its taken a little playing to get used to it.  It feels really good in my hands and just thumps.

I may get it painted later on.  I was thinking of finding someone good with airbrush and having some Maiden album covers done on the bass body.  My 2 main choices are:

Brave New World

Fear of the Dark

It would be just the artwork and not the band logo of course, but I think with the right person doing it the project could come out pretty sweet.

Oh, I wasn't looking to make it "more metal" or anything...I just want a bass with that artwork. :o) The bass will be whatever you make it be by playing...its all good.

Don't change the wood! I love the bass in a nice wood tone body. Something about natural wood just says 'mellow' on a bass(even though your choice of music sort of indicates 'heavy' - it still works)

The paintjob is kind of a pipedream right now. It is something I'm planning on doing some day, it might be this bass or maybe I'll pick up some more as I go.

That is a NICE bass! Don't paint it! Although that artwork is killer, Don't paint over that one. There's nothing 'Less' metal about a natural wood bass. (IMO of course)
