When it starts dripping from other places

Thanks to my asshole neighbor's kids I've been up since a little after 2:30 with no hope of getting back to sleep so I thought I'd peruse the internet.  Also considered cranking up the bass amp and working on some Skynyrd covers Dan the Drummer Man wants to mess with but ultimately was too tired.

Anyway, I came upon the following story:

File this one under "O" for "Oops." A cleaner with the best intentions accidentally destroyed a piece of art worth more than $1 million when she removed what she thought was a "stain" from the installation. Spoiler alert: It wasn't really a stain.

The piece of art, titled "When It Starts Dripping From The Ceilings," features a series of wooden planks and a (formerly) discolored plastic bowl. The artist, the late Martin Kippenberger, intended for viewers to understand that the bowl had been discolored by water running over the pieces of wood.

Unfortunately, the bowl isn't so discolored anymore. A spokesperson from the art museum in Dortmund, Germany, remarked that "it is now impossible to return it to its original state." The cleaner was apparently unaware that she was supposed to stay at least 20 centimeters away from the works of art.

Sounds pretty horrifying, right?  I mean what was this, some immaculate sculpture or beautiful painting?  No, it was this:

Are you fucking serious?  I don't know what's more shocking: the fact that this was in a museum, the fact that its valued at over a million dollars or the fact that someone cares this happened.  "When It Starts Dripping From the Ceiling"...then you call the landlord.  I mean come on.  I know art is a subjective thing, but this is a mold-covered ashtray under a table.  Remember a few months ago I blogged about what was dripping from my ceiling?  A reminder:

Looks like I screwed up by having this fixed.  Based on the above article, I'd say I pissed away about $90 million worth of "art".  Sorry, son...there goes your inheritance.

Two thoughts: 1. If the dude was considered one of Germany's greatest artist, what does that say about Germany's artist? 2. Ummm...if the discoloration effect was made by water dripping over wood, why can't can't you replicate it?

Hah, those are both things I wondered about as well. The third thing I was wondering was "who decides what is art and who decides how much this crap is worth?".

Hmm, maybe I should sell some of my dad's 'weathered' plastic barrels...
