You know, as an author, it should be relatively easy for me to come up with a title for my blog. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time. I have another blog - well, more than one, but both are dedicated to my writing, so titles are pretty easy; gaming, not so much. Anyway, just wanted to tell you a little about myself.
First and foremost, I'm married, and have been for ten years to PA the Eagle. We have a cat of one year, and recently got an 7-8 year old Westie. Let me tell you, this weekend has been quite the adventure. We're getting a housemate tomorrow who will be bringing in two more cats, and in November, another dog. What FUN we're going to have! I have another quest to do when our housemate arrives - to get her into gaming as well. She plays games on her phone like Ms. PacMan and Tetris and that's about it.
Shortly after our marriage, Peter Jackson's vision of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings came out and PA and I went to see it, after which I wrote my first multichaptered novel length story. Oh, I had written a lot before that, working on various short stories and poetry in grade school on through college, but this was the first thing I'd ever spent so much time on and gotten done. It took me a full year to write, and another to edit. PA told me since I'd worked on it so hard, I should see if I could publish it. Tolkien Estates turned me down on publishing it because they don't allow any fan written stories to be published, however the rejection of publishing the story came with a silver lining though it was many years later before I realized I had Tolkien Estates to thank.
A few weeks after I got my rejection letter from Tolkien Estates on the story I'd written, I received a writing test in the mail from Long Ridge Writers Group. Well, I'd never heard of them, nor had PA or any of our family, yet they said that I'd requested the writing test. After we checked them out with the Better Business Bureau, PA told me to go ahead and take it, that I really didn't have anything to lose. So, I took the test, sent it in, got accepted and have taken their Breaking Into Print course on short stories and magazine articles, as well as their Shape, Write and Sell Your Novel course. Now I am in the midst of weeding out the details in about 4-5 original pieces and a BUNCH of fan fictions too.
In original works, I have two vampire story ideas, one of which I'm trying to revive from high school that I never got back because the teacher claims they lost it. I know it scared the crap out of her though, LOL, and she probably doesn't want me to finish it. That one is one of the hardest to work on because each time I try to recreate it, it comes out differently than I had written it in high school. The other was inspired by, but not based off of Stephenie Meyers Twilight Saga. I wanted to put it in the same time frame as far as the world goes, so that her characters actually exist in the same time as mine, but that's about all the link between them. Well, that and my vampire doesn't sparkle, HAHA.
I also have a werewolf story idea that right now is just in my head; an original Oz story - wait, how can an Oz story be original, right? Well, the characters are mine, and the story takes place about 200 years after Syfy's Tin Man series. There are a few similarities, but the background story is a bit different. I also have an idea for a fantasy novel with a background in Old British and Welsh history in which I am dealing with a royal family and concepts of slavery.
As far as fandom goes, I've worked in Harry Potter, Tin Man, Labryinth, Smallville, Yugioh, Lord of the Rings, Full House and celebrity fandoms. Most, but not all I write falls into the gay romance genre. My Lord of the Ring novel I spoke of, the Labryinth story and the Full House story are all mainstream stories. You can check out my stuff on various sites like fanfiction.net/~glitchie, www.myfandoms.com/profile.php, something2fight4.wordpress.com/ is a personal fan fiction blog while something2fight4.fanfic.me/ is open to other authors for fandom, and I am told will be allowing for original works in the near future. I can also be found at www.fictionpress.com/~glitchie and www.webook.com/member/Glitchie. You can also find my stuff at propertyofwyatt.livejournal.com/ which is my Live Journal, and the-old-road.livejournal.com/. If you're looking for me on Facebook, you can find me at www.facebook.com/profile.php for my personal facebook, or www.facebook.com/profile.php for my author profile. The point of this is, if I'm not gaming, I'm probably busy writing somewhere, LOL.
If you go to www.trekspace.org/video/video/listForContributor you can see some of the fan videos I've done. I post there because Youtube likes to take my stuff down. Oh, and if you go to my personal facebook account, you can check out some of my digital art. I used to post to Deviant Art, but like Youtube, they liked to take my stuff down. Please note that some of my picture are is NSFW and a little risque. Galleries are noted as to which have adult content. I am also on www.behance.net/SharonAkins and www.linkedin.com/profile/view as well as Twitter at twitter.com/#!/sharon_akins. That's all for now I suppose, now that I've talked your ear off and likely made your eyes bleed, but I hope this gives you a little more insight into what makes me tick, and if you've noticed, I'm a bit scatterbrained as well, so add ADD and OCD into the mix and you've got me, HAHA. Until next time!
