Shared on Tue, 04/22/2008 - 11:26I am an asshole, it is pretty well documented. I also fuck around a lot on here, but obviously that is just messing around. In real life I am a quiet guy, and dad that is wrapped around 4 little girls' fingers.
Fast forward to this morning, before taking my kids to school I talked to them about a notice the school had sent home about a suspicious vehicle by a school near their school. It was a Penske truck that was stopping and playing the "I lost my puppy" game to try and lure kids. Luckily every time they tried an adult was there to stop them, but it still scares the shit out of me and my wife and I make a point to talk to our kids about things like that. Not to scare them, although I think kids should have some fear to a degree, but to make them aware. My little ones are 5 and 7, so they need to learn the sad ways of today's world unfortunately. The thought of something happening to any kid like that just scacres the holy shit out of me.
I am working from home this entire week and about an hour ago got a call from the school saying my 7 year old was throwing up. I live not 5 minutes from the school so I hop in the ride and go get her. On our way back home we spotted a Penske truck driving slowly through the neighborhood near the school. It had the Penske decals removed and the windows tinted, fitting the description from the newsletter sent home. I won't lie, I absolutely felt my heart jump into my throat. Could those have been the sick fuckers that tried their game yesterday and are now moving on to a fresh area? I immediately called the school and let them know. I don't care if I see 100 trucks like it, I will report every one. I felt it was my responsibility to do it, if it pans out 1 out of 1000 times then it is worth being a little paranoid.
The secretary at the school sort of brushed it off which pissed me off, saying something like "well I know I saw someone in that area moving this week". Well you know wha lady, fuck that. No chance needs to be taken. Right around when she was about to let me go and before I could ask to talk to someone else I heard her being talked to by someone then she asked me to hold. The next person on the phone was the principle who thanked me for letting them know and he asked some specifics in terms of the location and looks of the vehicle. He apologized for her not taking it as seriously as she should.
I hate that I have to worry about shit like this, but it is what needs to be done when you are a dad or even a halfway responsible citizen. All I know is, I am still uneasy about the whole thing.
