Shared on Tue, 05/09/2006 - 08:45This is a big week for gamers as it is E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo. It basically takes on the same tone as the NFL draft, except for video game playing geeks. Folks pay extra to gaming websites for live information and expert analysis of the proceedings. The major companies announce their new “players”, er products, and fans dissect every little bit of detail. For me, I just sit back and laugh at the flame wars that can erupt over things that have not even been released yet. There have been products shown at E3 that never actually get released to stores and there are products/games that have flown under the radar that, when released, blow us out of the water. I am looking forward to a bit more information about the following XBOX 360 releases: Gears of War, Mass Effect, the rumored Shadowrun RPG, and whatever they are calling Halo 3 for now until they actually decide to start calling it Halo 3. The PS3 and Wii will have to play second banana as Microsoft has earned my love with the two Halo games, MechAssault, Crimson Skies, and KOTOR, in addition to some of the best versions of multi-platform games.
Roller coaster season has been going on for about a month now (mainly on weekends for a lot of facilities) but it does not really kick into high gear until May (with the opening of Cedar Point for daily operations). This past weekend, a wooden roller coaster made its debut in Santa Claus, Indiana. The roller coaster has since been reviewed so glowingly that one wonders if it would be rated not just an 11 but a 12 on the Spinal Tap scale. Holiday World http://www.holidayworld.com has been known for their two other wooden coaster, the Raven and the Legend, but their latest, the Voyage, is the one generating the buzz. I have not been fortunate enough to get down there to ride but rest assured that I am trying to make all the arrangements in order to experience the Voyage by the end of the month. I would highly recommend that anyone who is close enough to get there (I’m looking at you BigOne and Stryker) do so. I rarely make such a positive recommendation for a ride that I myself have not ridden but just watching the on-ride video will tell you to go.
Custom Game of the Week: I am looking for feedback on some of my custom games this week. Read through some of my old blogs to catch some names or just recall ones you have played. Some of the games I have set up include: Pimp My Hog, Checkered Flag, Sitting Ducks, SWAT, Weakest Link, Nucking Futs, Sitting Ducks, Insane Asylum, Snot Bombs, and of course, Fiesta Grande. I will also accept feedback on my choice of games when I am party leader as some party leaders tend to go towards MLG style games while I like to be a little crazier.
Halo 2 Thoughts: This past week was a strange one in terms of getting to play Halo 2. Fewer OMM are playing and I do not have many 2o2p’ers in my friends list. I’ve also played against a wide range of skill levels. I have been a surprising leader in some of the customs I have played and yet in others I have been a burden to my team. Constant feedback is something I think we can do to help one another in improving each clan member’s skills. I know that I am very strong in SWAT style games and I have other strengths. My skill set is best described as “a strong backup guy”. I seem to thrive when there is one person on my team that is better than me because it allows me to focus on what I need to do as opposed to be the superstar of the team. That is when I seem to end up leading a team to victory.
