Gotta love 3 day weekends!

Well yesterday was a statutory holiday in Ontario Canada (Civic Holiday is the official name. Gotta love when they give you a day off for the hell of it. First Monday of August) and as such, the plan for the 3 day weekend was to takem y family camping with my uncle's family. (My uncle in this case being only 6 years older than I am and our kids being approx. the same age).

We went to the beautiful Rideau River Provincial Park. Very nice facilities, very clean park. A very impressively nice beach for a river area as well.

Unfortunately we wern't able to make it out Saturday(the date we had the spot reserved) because my daughter came down with some sort of stomach bug that left her in pain most of the day (No fever, vomitting or diarrhea, just pain. Wierdest thing) that subsided at approx. 7PM in the evening. The next day we re-packed everything and headed out. Got there on the Sunday, we setup our tent and stuff and headed off to the beach.

I essentially spent 2 afternoons playing with my daughter in the water and the sand, 2 evenings cooking outdoors food (Isn't outdoors food so much yummier than indoor food?) and making camp fires. Gotta love getting in touch with my inner pyromaniac.

Roasted Marshmallows are as vile as I remember them, fire roasted weiners are mui tasty. Staring into a fire at night in the woods while drinking beer after the kids have gone to bed is the ultimate in relaxing experiences. I need to do this shit in my back yard since I have a fire pit, I live in the countryside and I have beer at home.

Bad things I need to not do for next time :

1 - Forgetting pillows when re-packing on the Sunday morning (I didn't recall the ground being quite so hard).

2 - Leaving the inflatable mattress at the in-laws last x-mas after we didn't have enough room to repack it. (See above bracketed section).

I'm leaving at the end of the week for my hometown of Caraquet NB on Friday(10-12 hour drive from Ottawa). This time around I'll be packing my 360 with me cause I told my brother I'd be bringing Guitar Hero 2 as he's never played it and would like to try. Maybe I should get a few days of practicing in so I don't completely suck at hard songs when I get there...

Even though I'll have my 360 out there, any serious gaming will be doubtful as I'll be doing the whole socialise with the family thing(My in-laws, parents and siblings all live in NB. My wife would probably still be out there had she not followed me to the "big city". I'm thankful she did =) ).

Plus there won't be any reliable broadband near any TV (My in-laws don't own a computer and my mother's is in the basement sans-wifi).

I'll post picture next week of the view from my in-laws front porch (They literally live on the bay between NB and Quebec).

EDIT

This is too cool.  I just googled for photos of my home town and lo and behold, someone has a set of flickr about it.

Pictures

Just to pre-empt, some of pictures are from a tourist attraction called the Acadian Historical Village.  A site where they transported various very old buldings from all over NB and demonstrate the lifestyle of people in this neck of the woods between 1770 and 1939.  It's quite a beautiful site to visit.
