Dude-Gotta Get A Dell

Has to be among the worst tech support EVER (no secret there).  Just bought an Inspiron 6400 about a month ago.  Recently when I closed the lid, the screen went black but was still running.  I played with the settings to make sure the power management was correct and it was.  Also, the Media Direct button (which launches their entertainment program for DVD, music, etc) wasn't working.  Now the fun part.  The stereotype fell into place and I got someone who's English skills were marginal at best.  We hooked up the remote connection and he started playing around.  Looooong story short-he suggested I have it hibernate when the lid closed.  I said-no-I want it to work the right way and at this point told him about the button.  After a 34 minutes of time I will never get back, his solution was to reload Windows.  Told me there was no way that maybe a connection was broken between the button and the program-nope, not possible.  I had to reload Windows to start fresh.  I'd had it at this point and gave up.  So, I started playing around with the different function buttons just in case---sure enough--Fn + F8 brought the screen back.  He couldn't tell me to hit this simple two button combo!  What a joke.  I should have realized this earlier but come on.  (My button still doesn't work )

Same opinion of Dell support, here. I live in Austin, and know that Michael Dell has fired some of his upper mgt. and taken more control of operations again. This should be evident soon.

I refuse to speak to any customer service agent whose first language isn't English, if I happen to get on with one who has 'marginal English skills' I will have them transfer me to someone who I can understand, then I get accused of being racist...not racist, I just can't understand your version of the English language, lol.

I used to be all about Dell until 5 years ago. Now i only buy HP/Compaq stuff. Dell's lost a lot of business because of their support problems. While i expect a lower grade of support for home users, if i'm a business customer calling in for business level tech support, i expect certain things and Dell doesn't deliver to either the Business or Home users for support. They totally suck. Their only shimmering light is that for server support you actually get decent people on the phone most of the time. I haven't had to buy a server in a while though.
