OK, I need some advice.  My 5 year old daughter still comes in and wakes me up in the middle of the night when she needs to go to the restroom.  Now the restroom is RIGHT BY HER DOOR and our bedroom is on the OTHER SIDE OF THE HOUSE!!!!  I don't understand it.  How it has been working lately is I go to bed at around 11:30 and then I am right about asleep at 12 and then here she comes.  Needless to say, I am not a happy camper.  I have talked to her about it and she really doesn't have an excuse as to why she is doing it.  We keep a night light on in the bathroom so that it is not dark and yet she still comes to get me.  I have tried bribing her and every thing and nothing works.  I get up at 5:45 (my wife sets the alarm clock then and once the alarm clock goes off, I'm up).  Now I should be eating it up and I try to remember that she will only be little for a little while, but I NEED MY SLEEP!!!

Has anyone been through this and have some advice for me?

I had this problem (and still sort of do, but it is better) with my 4 year old. What I do is try to encourage her about being a "big girl" and it seems to make her feel good and want to do it herself. It is tough though man, I feel your pain.

Agree with Rab. I have an 1 yr old daughter. When she was in her "wake up daddy at odd hours of the night" phase, I nipped it in the bud with the "big girl" talk and positive reinforcement. I used her slightly older cousins as examples as well. It didn't get fixed overnight, but it didn't last long after that.

I meant 11 yr old. She was about 4 during the above mentioned phase.

lock the door to your bedroom? lol j/k. Maybe take her through the process before she gets put to bed so she can see she doesn't need you there. Let her show you how its done. Build her confidence in it I guess.

my plan B was to hide in her closet wearing a hockey mask with a chainsaw and randomly jump out while they were sleeping but it never came to that point I feel strongly it would have worked right, guys?
