While my Dr is waiting on my new blood work to come back, he wants me to find a low impact way to exercise. I was thinking since I've already had a heart attack perhaps I should give golf a go. Can anyone tell me if this is a good idea, what clubs I'll really need to start with and some good brands? Much thanks for any help you can give. Have a great weekend and peace out.

Brands are more based on personal opinion and price. I prefer Titleist. It is an expensive hobby but fun too. I would get a good brand King Cobra, Titleist, Clevelands, Pings, Taylor Made, Callaway, Mizuno, or Nike. Get a club that is a couple of years old that cost less. Check out Golf Smith or Edwinn Watts for some good deals. I pick out clubs based on how they look when addressing the ball and then look into performance of the club. May sound weird but If I don't like the way the look I don't bother. Last year, Titleist put out some good sticks but I also have been looking at Mizuno. Believe me you can spend a small fortune on clubs. I play with Titleist 962 irons that are about 10 years old. I just regrip them every couple of years to keep the new feel. I prefer a Titleist putter but Odyssey 2 ball is quite popular. My driver is a Taylor Made 580 that is 5 years old and my wedges are half Titleist and half Cleveland. Next will come the ball. I prefer a softer ball compared to the harder distance balls. Guess what, I prefer Titleist but hit anything that I find in my bag. Don't play as much as I used to but know my way around the course. Yes, golf is a good way to get some excercise.

Most of the guys that I know who play seem to have an aneurysm everytime they go out. Not from exertion, but from frustration! Plus it can be !@#$%^& expensive! What about yoga? (hold on now...) Wii Fit has yoga, and I sweat more doing that than the Wii Sports boxing (which is a good workout, too). If Wii's not your thing, and you (perhaps) have a negative view of yoga, check out DDP's YRG: See the vid about Arthur. Pretty amazing stuff. Good luck! (I'm trying to get of BP meds myself... down 16lbs since the new year started!). Rick

mizuno is a sleeper brand right now. good clubs, relatively cheap. it's been said if you have $1000 to spend on clubs, but a $200 set from walmart and spend $800 on lessons. for low impact, swimming is better. but if you really want to play golf, swing EASY. you may find you hit better that way.

I'm just weighing out my options now. When you have a heart attack, it makes you fearful if you get a pain.

Golfing with your doctor is good for patient-physician relationships.

I should add that I run with my minister, so we have our bases covered.
